HEDDA GABLER
Caird Studio RWCMD | September 2024 | Realised Performance Design
"A woman both captivating and destructive, navigates her new marriage and the pressures of her world. A psychological masterpiece, this work explores the life of Hedda Gabler trapped by societal expectations, internal conflict, and an insatiable desire for control over her own destiny. A character who is both a product and a victim of her environment, is she truly a villain, or is she simply a woman struggling to assert herself in a world that refuses to understand her?"
DESIGN CONCEPT
The vision behind the concept was to design the posh but old main living room of Hedda and Tesman's home and convey that they had just moved in. With a traverse seating, the aim was to achieve a clear boundary of the space along with making the audience feel like they were spectators getting an insight to Hedda's home and her domestic issues. Many additions to the set are personalised to Hedda's characteristics and class.
