TRIBUTE TO LAURIE BAKER

Baroda Museum | December 2022 | Conceptual Exhibition Design

Designing a deployable exhibition to pay tribute to Lawrence Wilfred Baker, a British born Indian architect renowned for his vernacular sustainable architecture in India by exhibiting works inspired by his beliefs and principles. He used a careful orchestration of contrast which helps to enrich the feeling of movement and provides complexity in a simple space.

DESIGN CONCEPT

The basic idea was to divide the exhibition space using contrast in shape that is combining organic forms with geometric forms. This creates a path of movement for the visitor. The partition wall in the space was inspired by Baker's jali work and was designed to create the same effect and also show a play of light and shadow. The wall was designed by keeping the deployability aspect in mind, the walls can be opened and closed together simply by the hooks.
